London Getaway

london-bridge-pauline-sIf you are looking for a place to spend the weekend with your friends, family, loved one, or even by yourself, London is the perfect place. In less than two hours, you can be in the British capital. In this article, you will find tips for a future travel to London.

The flights are not too expensive especially if you book them early. And, as the flight time isn’t long it’s the perfect destination for a three-day weekend. Leaving early in the morning with the first flight and coming back late with the last one; it is the perfect deal.

Once you’ve landed, be aware that the airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) are away from the downtown. It is about one hour by train. You will find special trains taking you from the airport to the train stations of Victoria or Paddington. The tickets are quite expensive so for length of time take the subway, it’s way cheaper.

When you are in London there are a lot of things to see, but you’ll not see them all in a short time. Prepare your journey before you go so once you are there you won’t waste time deciding what you want to visit. To do the maximum number of things and not to spend hours walking, take the subway, it is quite easy to use.

Of course Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, London Tower, Tower Bridge, Piccadilly Circus, the London Eye and Westminster Abbey cannot be got around. If you go to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard there will be at least several hundreds of people with you. For a tour in London Eye, book the tickets before to avoid the queue. The best place to go shopping is Oxford Street, but once again really crowded.

A cool thing to do and a good place to eat is Camden Market, it’s in the north of the city and you will find lots of shops selling all kinds of food you can think of (Mexican, French, Japanese, Chinese, British, American, Italian) in one single place. And besides, it’s the coolest place if you want a tattoo or a piercing.

If you have time and are comfortable with English, go see a musical in Covent Garden. There are some for every taste: The Lion King, Mama Mia, Wicked, Les Misérables, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and many more. The atmosphere is amazing; you’ll be sure to spend a great evening. Personally, my favorites are Mama Mia and Wicked – they are simply fantastic.

These are my little tips for a trip to London, I hope it will be useful. If you’ve been to London, please leave a comment below to tell us about your experience!

I am an 18-year-old girl from Thonon-les-Bains in Haute-Savoie, near Geneva. I’m part of the International Program at ISEG Marketing & Communication School in Lyon. I choose this program because I love English and I am very interested in working abroad. In fact, I love discovering new countries, new cultures and new people. I am fond of travel. I also like photography especially when I can take pictures of a new place. I hope this program will give me the opportunity to exercise both of my passions.
