Eat, Drink, Dance, Repeat

Music. Who doesn’t like music? It’s there when you’re alone, when you’re with your friends, and it’s always there when you need it. Music has this great ability to bring together people. That’s why festivals are probably some of the best places in the world.

France has great festivals, but to me the best one is the festival of the Vieilles Charrues. This festival has existed for 25 years and is situated in Brittany. It lasts four days from Thursday to Sunday (this year from July 13-17) and it welcomes more than 250,000 visitors every year. Each year they have an amazing program as they manage to get excellent artists such as Major Lazer, Nekfeu, Lana Del Rey or The Avener for the 2016 edition, and this year they have Macklemore, Justice, Phoenix, Die Antwoord, and many others are yet to be announced! What I love about the festival is that every year they have a different theme. This means that every year you’ll have a different atmosphere. For example, last year the theme was “video games,” in 2015 it was “Alice in Wonderland,” and this year it will be “Love & Peace.”

Wherever you are you’ll always be smiling. This festival is like the purgatory pilgrimage for any Breton. The Vieilles Charrues symbolizes the true spirit of the Bretons: being amazingly generous and sociable. By going to festivals like these you’ll get to meet new people and to discover new sub-cultures (because yes, being Breton is basically like being from another culture).

Truly, what makes the festival so lively and fun is not especially the artists, but the people: it’s you, it’s me, it’s everyone. So if you ever have the occasion to go to a festival, whether it’s a big one or a small one, I promise, you’ll enjoy it!
